i arranged this little peter rabbit table for peter's christening last weekend, i think it all turned out perfectly sweet! nathalie from imprintables made the most gorgeous papery things and i made all of the cute sweets. i think my favourite detail was the hand painted watercolour cookies, i have wanted to make some cookies like this since i first saw some similar ones by nevie pie cakes ages ago on flickr.

i am always so happy when someone organises a rainbow party- firstly i love making this rainbow design, it was one of my first designs and definitely one of my all time favourites, and secondly- i am really happy for the little girl whos party it is! i would have loved a rainbow party when i was little and i think that any mum who organises one is just the best! last weekend i was lucky enough to be asked by the lovely catherine and nhan from lily and bramwell to be a part of their stand at the newcastle city hall bridal expo! it was my first expo and it was alot of fun, our stand was very cute and we had an amazing response! thanks so much to everyone that came by and thanks so much to catherine and nhan for inviting me!! (how cute is that pic of them?!)

i made this cute little cake for my friend's god son's christening! i was technically still on holidays but i just couldnt say no, i love making cakes for my friends and i dont often get the chance to make cakes just for fun any more... anyway, i love how this little one turned out! the colour scheme and cute little dots around the bottom tier were inspired by bastian's invitation designed by his clever mum, suzanna.

i was so excited when i was asked to make a grecian inspired cake, i have had this design in my head since i visited samos island earlier this year. i was so inspired by all of the shades of blue and aqua and all of course all of the beautiful hydrangeas! the cake design ended up being quite simple, but i like it like that... everything was just so beautiful and simple there... *sigh*

and i have been sighing over this lovely pic in my pintrest collection for a while now...

this is cute little hungry caterpillar party is definitely one of the brightest, most colourful parties nathalie and i have worked on. eloise's mum and dad both love to read and wanted a colourful very hungry caterpillar themed party to celebrate her first birthday... how cute!! nathalie custom designed some very sweet invitations and papery cuteness to suit and i thought little stacks of books and lolly jars on a book shelf would look sweet aswell .. i think my favourite detail is the little fruit cookies- i made one apple cookie, two pear cookies, three plums .... !

my classes at fair cake london- part 2!

london was just so fantastic, it still feels a bit unreal that i was asked to teach .. sometimes i still feel like a bit of an amateur ... but everyones results were so fantastic and i was so proud of what they achieved and so proud that i taught them! many of my students hadnt worked with fondant before, never piped before, never piped on the side of a cake, never ganached and/ or never covered a large cake before... i didnt realise how exhausting it would be- it took alot of energy running around the class room trying to catch people before they made mistakes, but in the end it was just so rewarding!

the pics above are from my daily walk to work through the cute suburb of greenwich to fair cake's vanilla workshop *sigh* i was lucky enough to arrive at london during a 'heat wave' which meant a week of totally glorious weather- i didnt understand what everyone always complains about! oh and i had the best lunch made up from products i picked up at the cute delicious bread, cheese and fruit + veg shop... swiss cheese, avocado, tomato and fig sandwiches- yum!!

and below are some more photos from my classes... these pics are from my second cookie class and my 2 day wedding cake class- i only had time to snap a few pics in between my running around, but i think they still capture everyones concentration, what a fantastic workspace vanilla workshop is and how fantastic their results were ... !

while i was in london i also had the chance to catch up with some of my internet cake friends! i was lucky enough to meet up again with my lovely flickr friend chris (abbietabbie), i had the pleasure of meeting her when she visited sydney a few years ago and it was so nice to see her again! she has always been so encouraging, she is just so lovely and really is one of my most favourite people!

i also had a chance to meet up with natasha from nevie pie cakes at the fancy department store selfridges where she was delivering her sweets to. we have been friends on flickr for ages, i have always admired her beautiful hand painted sweets and it was so nice to finally meet her.. oh and she gave me a gift!

it was also so lovely that some of my friends were able to attend my classes!! i was so happy that my long time flickr friend louise (swissy missy) was able to come to my wedding cake class! it was only her second time covering a large cake in fondant and piping on the side- her results were amazing!! louise wrote a great blog post about the class here!

and my super lovely, sweet french friend eloise also came to my wedding cake class! i met eloise earlier in the year when i traveled to paris (a little blog post here) she has the cutest blog la dinette and is just one of the cutest, sweetest people i have met! she wrote a really lovely blog post about my class here!

i had such a fantastic time teaching at fair cake, i feel so lucky and honored that i was asked to visit! i feel so lucky to have met all of my wonderful students and make so many new friends! i am also so lucky to have worked with such a wonderful team at faircake- shikhita, jess and jess are just the best, i really miss them already and can't wait to head back there... soon... !!

my classes at fair cake london- part 1

ok i am preeetty, really, super behind in my blog posts! i thought that i should finally write my post about my fabulous trip to london and the super amazing time that i had teaching at fair cake's vanilla workshop! firstly i will let you know about the amazing space that is vanilla workshop- it is soooo sooo sooo fantastic, it has been purpose built to be a super cute and practical workspace decked out with 4 ovens, so many mixers, a really cute little supply store, a fantastic work bench and plenty of tea! definitely my kind of place!

then there is the fair cake team- shikhita, jess and jess! they are just the loveliest, sweetest bunch of girls and so much fun to hang out with, thanks so much guys for making me feel at home! here is a cute pic of us all before heading for a night out!

THEN there is my super fun classes and my amazing students! i was so honored that people traveled from all over the uk and europe to come to my classes, i had so much fun meeting everyone and teaching everyone. i was so amazed by their results... i shared as much information as i could about my methods and techniques, things that i have spent years figuring out and i was so impressed how quickly everyone learnt to work with colour and fondant, cut out shapes by hand and absolutely perfect piping- wow, wow, wow! below are some pics from my cupcake class and first cookie class, i will share some more pics soon!

earlier in the year i made christian's super cute owl christening cake (see post here!) and last weekend it was his first birthday!! maria and i had the exact same idea to turn my cute little heart balloon design into a hot air balloon cake and i think it turned out so so so sweet!! maria did a FANTASTIC job arranging this adorable sweet table (thanks maria for the photo!), i supplied the cake, cupcakes, cookies, coconut ice and cake pops and she organised the rest including gorgeous printables by mon tresor...

i have had the most amazing time in london teaching at fair cake's beautiful vanilla workshop! i have so so so many parties, cakes and classes to post about but i will start with lovely jessies dessert table. i was lucky enough to work with jessie for both her kitchen tea and her wedding- she really was just the sweetest, sweetest bride and i was just so, so excited for her wedding day. it was held at the stunning silo restaurant and lounge at honeysuckle, newcastle which provided the perfect back drop to the table. the sweets included a delicious caramel mud cake with dark chocolate ganache along with buttercream and decorated vanilla bean cupcakes, vanilla sugar cookies, meringues and range of white lollies. it was quite a simple, but such a gorgeous dessert table!

i have been looking forward to this baby shower for ages! tegan first contacted me in may to start organising her baby shower, i knew that the time would go fast- but not this fast! tegan wanted a babushka themed baby shower and since the sex was unkown she wanted the colour scheme to be yellow, peach and cornflour blue. nathalie made a very cute custom design and i put together the rest of the sweets and a tea party to match- i think it all turned out so so so sweet!

a couple of weeks ago i had the pleasure of working with photographer justin aaron, helping style this super gorgeous engagement shoot. corrine and brad are such a cute couple and it was such a relaxed, lovely sunday afternoon in beautiful newcastle. justin did such an amazing job capturing these beautiful images and i cant stop sighing over how perfectly sweet they are....

it was so much fun working with them all and i cant wait to work on their wedding later in the year!

in my job there are alot of late nights and alot of early mornings, i was so happy when i had a baby shower to set up in newcastle- i didnt have to drive 2 hours to sydney first!! but then i found out it was a 10 am start so i had to arrive at 6am to set up... so no sleep in for me. lucky i got to look out over this beautiful sunrise all morning!

i made this sweet bunny cake for victoria's baby shower, she wanted a cute bunny cake based on my magic bunny cake and in a green and blue colour scheme... i paniced for a second about how i can change the original design that much and then i told myself- dont worry naomi, you are an expert in cute! so i made it pop out of grass instead and i really love how it turned out!

while i was in paris i caught up with my lovely blog friend eloise from la dinette (i recently did an interview for her blog here) and she wrote me a to-do list of all the patisseries to visit!

these are just a few of the MANY pastries i enjoyed while i was there and pics of the beautiful laduree.. i dont really think their pastries are as amazing as the price suggests... so many of the little side street patisseries are just as amazing... but it is all just so so so pretty! it is worth it just for the packaging!

'visit paris flea markets' has been on my to do list since i first read about it on oh happy day! i LOVED exploring the little lanes and i loved all of the styling! ... although i dont really think it was styled on purpose...! if you are visiting paris i highly reccommend a little trip there, i could have spent ages looking for treasure and i could have bought lots of things if i had space in my suitcase! there are some great directions on the oh happy day blog here!

i have had the most amazing holiday and i have met some amazingly beautiful people who have been so sweet, generous and hospitable... which is a really heartwarming thing. i was lucky enough to spend some time with my lovely friend, melissa from le cupcakes di melissa in sarzana, italy. she is one of the sweetest people i have ever met and she has the cutest little cake shop! we both share a passion for fresh, quality ingredients and the fun of baking, which is a really lovely thing to find and it really shows in her cakes- her cupcakes were so so so delicious! my favourite was the lavender- yum!!

melissa is one of the first people to bring cupcakes and fondant covered cakes to italy and i think it is just so amazing how dedicated, organised and resourceful she has to be in a country that doesnt have easy access to ingredients and supplies... next time i duck down the shops at last minute to pick up some courveture chocolate, fondant and cutters i will know how lucky i am!

if you are in the la spezia area of italy.. or getting married around there- it is a super popular area for international weddings... i highly reccommend saying hi and having some super delicous cake!!

my holiday is wrapping up *sigh*, i am currently in paris and i start heading home today via a little stop over in bangkok.. the good news is that i will be really busy when i get back and will be back to cake blog posts!

here are some of my favourite photos from my time in italy!
florence- i loved michalengelo's david, it is truly beautiful and truly a masterpiece. although i love colour, florence looked amazing in black and white.
pisa- to be honest i have ALWAYS wanted one of those photos holding up the tower, but when i got there, there was a sea of people scrambling to get a spot and posing that i changed my mind and had fun taking photos of them.
tuscany- cute antique markets in lucca and marina di pisa.
sarzana-we visited cute sea side towns, these pics are from portovenere and cinque terre (5 lands), i love the colours of the buildings against the sea *sigh* so beautiful!

as a little bit of a contrast to my samos island photos here are some chilly photos from chamonix, mont blanc!

these pics are from a lovely day where we went up to the summit of aiguille du midi (3800m- so so so high!) to look at mont blanc, then we went down to plan de l'aiguille (2300m) to walk around the mountain range to see a glacier and ice cave. it was all so so pretty, the snow at the top was so peaceful and i love the texture of the walls of the ice cave...

i am SO SO SO excited to announce that i will be heading to LONDON in october to teach a series of classes at Fair Cake's new Vanilla Workshop!!!!

Below is a little summary of each class and a link to the full class description. Please, please, please help me spread the word and let anyone in london know that might be interested- i need to make sure i sell enough classes to cover my travel costs :) !!!

novelty cupcake class- i will be teaching the techiques that i use to cover cupcakes and create complex shapes using cutters and templates. the class is suitable for beginners to advanced.

christmas cookie class- i will be teaching the techniques that i use to bake and decorate my signature cookies including covering a cookie with fondant, piping decorations and creating fondant shapes for decoration. the class is suitable for beginners to advanced.

cherry cake class- i will be teaching the super important technique of preparing a cake with ganache to create a perfect base for covering. i will also be teaching how to cover a cake with fondant, modelling techniques and applying fondant decoration. suitable for beginners to advanced.

wedding cake class- again, i will be teaching the super important technique for preparing a cake with ganache to create a perfect base. i will also be teaching how to structure a 2 tier cake, covering an extended tier cake, creating delicate sugar flowers and piping patterns on the side of a cake. a knowledge of working with fondant is required.

here are a few holiday pics from macedonia! i have had the most AMAZING time here, we spent the first few nights in ohrid by the lake and it was just so so so so so amazingly beautiful and so so so so so relaxing! *sigh*

i am not good with words so i cant really explain how wonderful it has been but hopefully the pics give you an idea... the lake is so clear, the towns are so cute, the colours everywhere are fantastic, the fruit is AMAZING- the cherries are the most amazing red, everything is so cheap (for europe and compared to australia), everything is so relaxed, and everyone is amazingly genuinely friendly and helpful..... it has been just a perfect holiday!

this cake turned out pretty cuoooote!! the bottom tier was designed to match the invitation and maria wanted to incorporate a cute owl somehow.. so this is how it turned out! unfortunately the lighting was terrible that day and i am so disappointed that i didnt get a photo that captures how sweet this cake was... can someone pleeeeaase order it so that i have a good excuse to make it again??!

i also put together a mini dessert table with these cute little buttercream cupcakes, meringues and mint balls all to match the colour scheme and owl theme. the cute little bomboniere cookie jars were supplied by polka dot cookies.

i really really really love my job!

i made this cake for the sweetest couple, julia and geoff, their wedding was yesterday at the beautiful dunbar house on watson's bay and they wanted a simple cake with a blue and white colour scheme and bird toppers. the rest was up to me and she was looking forward to the surprise.... i didnt realise how much pressure that was- to surprise someone on their wedding day!

i was SO RELIEVED (and so happy!) today when i received the loveliest text from julia saying that they absolutely loved it, that the wedding was wonderful, the cake was delicious and that the cake made their night! oh that is just so so so lovely to hear and it makes my job so so so rewarding!

*sigh of happiness*

this kitchen tea was ALOT of work! it was so so so gorgeous but unfortunately there was so much to do that i didn't have time to take photos :( !! here are a few pics that i managed to snap and here are the details...

the kitchen tea for 30 guests was held in a beautiful house in woollhara, on a lovely sunday may afternoon... *sigh*

nathalie made the most gorgeous invitation and papergoods based on her oh-so sweet range and i made a single tier version of my pink lace peony cake to match. other sweets included; vanilla bean cupcakes, lemon meringue tarts, vanilla bean scones, french macarons, sugar cookies, turkish delight, honey meringues and bon bons.

the tea selection included- english breakfast, chamomile, peppermint, chai, china jasmine, madagascan vanilla, strawberry and cream and peach! i sourced all the extra bits and pieces that i needed like tea pots, tea cups, cake plates, vases, servingware, etc, etc all from the vintage kitchen (jo was so, so helpful!)

i used a mix of peach, pink and cream david austin roses and they just completed the sweet /vintage/ tea party look.. along with the doilies.

and finally the drinks list.. besides all the tea .. included san pellegrino lemon and orange, sparking water and peach bellinis....

.... it was my perfect kind of party! when will i be invited to one.. of my parties...??!

planet cake springtime course!

ta da! this is the result of my planet cake springtime 106 class!!

i learnt so much in the 3 days and i was so so so happy with the class. linda was a fantastic teacher and the class was so well structured. on the first day we learnt how to stucture the cake, ganache and prepare the sugar flowers, day 2 we covered the cake worked some more on our flowers and began decorating and on the final day we assembled the cake, finished decorating, assembled flowers and covered the board... it was alot of work to make this ginormous* cake!

it was also so lovely to meet all of the other students who share the same passion for cakes, they were the just sweetest bunch of girls and it was so nice the way everyone shared ideas for their designs. below are some behind the scenes photos, action shots and the class results- everyones cake turned out AMAZING- dont you think...?!!

hmm... now what do i do with my ginormous* cake??... it is my birthday this week but i dont know 200 people to share it with!

oh and planet cake are holding a japan relief cupcake workshop on wednesday 25th of May, it is a great chance to learn to make some cute japanese themed cupcakes and help japan with all proceeds going to the red cross.

in addition to enjoying an amazingly beautiful afternoon tea, the guests also made bath tea bags! this is such a great idea for an activity!

romi explained- "guests were given a little instruction card to make up their own mixtures of bath teas or they could follow our suggested recipes .... we had oatmeal, lavender, rose petals, goats milk powder, lemon verbena, orange peel, epsom salts and jugs of various yummy essential oils. The idea was they could mix, blend and create whatever fragrance they liked. I then heat sealed the bags and gave back to them (in the little brown heart bags you see pictured) to enjoy in their baths at home. It was a huge success!!"

*sigh* i am still sighing over these photos!!

i was SO excited when these arrived in my mail box (my real mail box) yesterday! i knew the photos were going to be gorgeous but not THIS GORGEOUS!

there are just too many pics to choose from so i will do another post tomorrow... anyway a little while ago i worked with romi from bo peep productions (bopeepproductions AT gmail DOT com) on this amazing kitchen tea that she styled. she arranged the most beautiful party and i made a variety of white + rustic style sweets to suit. the sweets list included a vanilla bean buttercream cake, cake pops, vanilla + coconut macarons, scones, profiteroles, belgian white chocolate rocky road, lemon glazed knot cookies, white chocolate apples and sponge rolls... all for a VERY long table- phew!

i put together this very sweet baby shower on the weekend, it was based on our sweet as honey theme and it looked so pretty in this beautiful house. i didnt have much time to take pics but the sweets included beehive vanilla cake, yoyo cookies, meringues, cupcakes, lemon meringue tarts, honeycomb, milk and honey drinks and ice tea. there was also a hint of savoury with a delicious cheese arrangement....yum!!

earlier this year scissors.paper.cake helped lovely bride dimitra with her wedding dessert table. i made these super cute mo and bow cookies lollipops, some cute heart cookies, cupcakes and cake topper, nathalie made the gorgeous stationary and we sent it all off to Melbourne where dimitra arranged the rest. she did a fantastic job, it all looks so so so gorgeous!

i was so so so excited to see my all time favourite book has been pulled out of the archives for reprint! the australian women's weekly children's birthday cake book is probably the reason i am now a cake decorator, i used to LOVE looking through mum's book, trying to choose my favourite... ahh the memories!

these are just a few of my all time favourite designs (the lollies on the cake had a significant influence on these decisions), but only now do i apreciate the vintage goodness aswell!
